Grover Beach Man Faces Slew of Charges After Trespassing on Neighbor’s Property

A Grover Beach man was arrested for allegedly trespassing and for having a booby trap in his home.

Grover Beach Police say on Friday one of James Wylie’s neighbors called them to say he had trespassed onto their property.

Officials say they were called to the 200 block of North 5th Street. When they arrived they had found Wylie had jumped the fence onto his neighbors property.

That’s when police say the neighbor put Wylie under citizen’s arrest.

“That does not mean that citizen actually makes an arrest he just tells the officer he wishes to press charges and then the officers make the physical arrest,” says Commander Tim Miller, Grover Beach Police Department.

Witness who didn’t want to go on camera but saw this all happen say Wylie climbed the wooden fence that separates his house from his neighbors, then allegedly started yelling and banging on their house.

Officers say when they arrived they found a loaded semi-auto pistol and marijuana in Wylie’s backpack. They also found he had made a homemade booby trap.

Officials say they arrested Wylie for placing a booby trap, unlawful procession of a firearm, prohibited possession of ammunition, prowling and possession of marijuana.

Daniel Micheotti has lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years. “You never know who you’re living next to until something like this happens,” he says.

He says for the most part is a quiet neighborhood and that he’s familiar with citizen’s arrests because he’s made them before.

“I have no problem with a citizens arrest because I have done it,” he says.

Wylie was taken to the San Luis Obispo County Jail on $30,000 bail. He is charged with the following:

HS 11357(b)- possession of marijuana
