Permanent Drug Disposal Box at SBPD

A new drug disposal box at the Santa Barbara Police Department will help residents safely and anonymously dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription pills.

The box will be located in the police department’s lobby at 215 E. Figueroa Street. The installation of the permanent box is said to, ” … address a vital public safety and public health issue, ” according to an SBPD press release. SBPD said medicines that sit in home cabinets are “highly susceptible” to misuse and abuse.

“The SBPD drug disposal box may be used by residents to discard pills or medicated patches (no liquids, needles, sharps, or other medical waste). Information regarding the disposal of liquid medications, needles, or sharps can be found at http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/HomeHazWaste/Medications/Household.htm and http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/HomeHazWaste/Sharps/Household.htm.” -SBPD press release
