Sherpa Fire Gets Its Name From Rancho La Scherpa

The Sherpa fire, that began last Wednesday, was named after a Christian guest ranch named Rancho La Scherpa. Neighbors said Scherpa means Shepard.

Portions of the ranch, including a backyard barbecue are taped off with pink tape.

Land nearby is scorched.

During a shift change about a dozen fire trucks went up Refugio Road toward the ranch. Their goal is to keep the containment line that surrounds a majority of the fire in check.

During a Monday evening briefing, firefighters were thanked for keeping the fire to 7,893 acres. Containment grew by more than to 10 percent Monday to 62 percent.

Investigators have not yet commented on the cause.
