Crews Battling 50 Acre Fire Along Highway 33 in Ventura County

[12:53 p.m. PDT] Casitas Fire is not 75% contained and remains at 50 acres in size.

[10:00 p.m. PDT]Fire is now 50% contained, and 50 acres in size. 5 engines and 2 hand crews are assigned to overnight shift. No injuries have been reported and the cause is under investigation.

[6:57 p.m. PDT] Fire is now 30% contained, and 50 acres in size.

[5:56 p.m. PDT] Fire officials are now putting the Casitas Fire at 50 acres in size, 0% contained.

[5:12 p.m. PDT] Per Ventura County Fire Capt. Mike Lindbery: 150 firefighters on scene. The fire is now 47+ acres, 0% contained.

[4:38 p.m. PDT] Per Ventura County Fire Department: Someone driving along Highway 33 noticed the fire and called 911. Crews have a good handle on the fire although strong winds in the area continue to be a big problem. The fire has moved over the ridge and away from structures. The Teen Center was the only structure threatened and firefighters evacuated about 60 people from the building. No injuries have been reported.

Fire officials are scaling this fire back to approximately 40 acres at this time.

Three helicopters are conducting water drops and additional air support is on the way to the fire.

[3:25 p.m. PDT] Ventura County Fire officials saying the fire is now threatening structures. Teen Challenge building has been evacuated according to Ventura County Fire Capt. Mike Lindbery. The fire is also threatening nearby power lines.

Firefighters are currently battling a brush fire that broke out along Highway 33 just after 2 p.m. south of Casitas Springs in Ventura County.

No injuries have been reported and no evacuations have been issued. However, fire crews are doing structure protection on nearby buildings as the fire, which has already burned 45 acres, continues to grow.

Multiple fire agencies are assisting Ventura County firefighters who are reporting that the brush fire is moving uphill along northbound Highway 33 with 10 mph winds fueling the flames.

Air tankers have been ordered to attack the fire from the sky as Ventura County Copter 7 continues making water drops.

The California Highway Patrol is reporting road closures on N. Ventura Avenue at the Highway 33 and N. Ventura Avenue at Caada Larga Road.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
