Opening Day Program Kicks Off Boating Season In Ventura County Harbors
Yacht Clubs put up their flags, and displayed their boats to kick off another boating season in the Ventura and Channel Islands Harbors.
It was standing room only on the deck and on the dock at the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club.
The ceremony also marks PCYC’s 40th anniversary.
Some of the clubs finest boats known as Bristol boats filled the guest dock for visitors to see.
Dick McNish, the namesake of the McNish Classic boat race, was on hand to show off Cheerio II, the Yawl once owned by actor Errol Flynn.
McNish explained why a bottle of champagne was hanging off the bow and a bottle of rum was hanging of the stern. He said it’s part of an opening day tradition.
Sometimes sailors try to take it, so crews members were jokingly keeping an eye on the bottles.
The opening day ceremony was followed by a cannon salute, a bell ceremony and a Bristol Boat presentation.
