AVILA BEACH, Calif. – One of the most unique annual events held on the Central Coast is drawing closer. Held each year in late-April and early-May, Wine, Waves & Beyond is a 4-day philanthropic event that highlights the lifestyle of the Central Coast.

“It really celebrates the intersection of food, wine and surf culture,” said Charles Crellin, general manager of Boutique Hotel Collection, which created the event seven years ago.

Held at numerous locations in San Luis Obispo County, Wine, Waves & Beyond has raised $130,000 for local charities. AmpSurf, a charity which provides surfing opportunities for wounded veterans, was the recipient for the first five years. Last year, Glean SLO, a program of the Food Bank of San Luis Obispo County became beneficiary.

“They work with local farmers and they glean or pick vegetables, fruit that are not going to be used and they turn those into the Food Bank and they use all that fresh vegetables and fruit. They really have a lot of fresh food now for people that need it,” said Crellin.

On Thursday, in an effort to help promote the fast-approaching event, Wine, Waves & Beyond held a special media luncheon, which mirrors the popular Winemakers Dinner that will be held on Saturday, April 30. The luncheon allowed local media members a chance to sample the menu planned for this year’s event.

The five-course meal will feature dishes prepared by various chefs from the Boutique Hotel Collection, including Cliffs Resort, Apple Farm, SeaVenture and Sycamore Mineral Springs. In addition, local wine will be paired with each course for the fortunate 40 members of the public who purchase tickets to the exclusive event.

Other events scheduled for Wine, Waves & Beyond includes: Big Waves on the Big Screen, a film viewing on Wednesday, April 27 at the Fremont Theatre in San Luis Obispo, Rabobank’s Barrel To Barrel, a food, wine and beer tasting event at the Cliffs Resort on Friday, April 29, the 805 Surf Classic surf contest in Pismo Beach on Sunday, May 1 and the 805 Beach Party in Pismo Beach on Sunday, May 1.
