Smart & Final Extra! Opens in Carpinteria Making it a Two Grocery Store Town

Carpinteria is now a town with two grocery stores. Smart & Final Extra! opened today with many civic leaders and business owners among the first to come in. The location on Linden Avenue had previously been a Hagan store and also a Vons.

Marisol Marks with Smart & Final Extra! said there is a difference between the widely known Smart & Final stores and the Extra! stores, and they are different from the main stream supermarkets. “But what you can still find in a Smart & Final Extra! store is all of the business items as well as the items non profit organizations need so all of the club sizes that you may not find in the traditional grocers. So we really are the best of both worlds,” she said.

The building became available when a business plan by Hagan failed and in the property was picked up by Smart & Final.

Smart & Final Extra! will also be opening in Santa Barbara on upper State Street soon. Recently it opened a new store in Goleta that was not part of the Hagen buyout.

As part of the opening festivities, a $2500. check was present to both the HELP senior transportation organization and the United Boys and Girls Club in Carpinteria.

Smart & Final says it looks forward to taking part in many local activities ahead including the California Avocado Festival and other civic events.
