Family Of Lexi Brown Thanks Community For Generosity And Support

The family of 12-year-old Lexi Brown is thanking the community for generosity and support after a huge BBQ fundraiser last month to help support the girl and her family as she battles cancer.

Carmel Schwindt organized the event at the Elks Lodge and was able to raise $17,530 for the family. Schwindt gives a lot of thanks to the Elks for the location and plenty of volunteers.

The Brown family released this statement:

“A thank you is in order, but it is not enough. The love and support we have been shown by family, friends, and the community has been extremely overwhelming. For people to rally around our daughter and our family the way everyone has is humbling. While it helps with the bills, the money is trivial, our children are our highest priority, and we would do whatever the cost for their health. But the fact so many people are willing to help with finances, that is what we cannot get beyond. In a time when we are dealing with treatments, doctor visits, and other related issues, we have been blessed beyond what we deserve, with love and support from family, friends, coworkers, and people we have never met. The support at work for both of us has been incredible from management to peers from day one, there have been no issues only concern for Lexi. Family and friends (let’s face it they are all extended family) have never wavered in their unconditional love, help, and support for us. The network of people we have never met but offer support, whether it is in the form of donations, prayers, or the kind hug from a stranger in a store who has heard Lexi’s story, has restored a faith in humanity that you sometimes lose with so much focus on the negative. Then there are the kids. The young men and women of UCLA are always doing something. Fingernail polish, a game of cards, movies, our chauffeuring us to a game, etc. The Bruins have, for some reason, taken to Lexi. Our parents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, there is no way we could have been able to hold it together anywhere near this long and know that as many times as I have been told, “You can’t pick your family”, we did pick our in-laws and would not hesitate to pick our own family again. We have realized we don’t know how to thank you. To say we are grateful would be an understatement. We have spent a lot of nights reflecting (code for “crying”) trying to figure out what we have done for so many people to come together for us and Lexi and what we should do. Our best solution is to make the most of everyday. Simple, but always overlooked, until you wish you had more time and regret the seconds you wasted. To be happy to wake up and go to sleep every day to the sound of the kids laughing, fighting, or driving us crazy. We are optimistic we have a lot of time and Lexi will beat this evil disease, but regardless we are going to live to the fullest with her and Carter. So that is the best we can do. It is not much to offer as a thank you for everything that has been done for us, but a promise not to miss any opportunities

Sincerely,

JON AND LISA BROWN”
