Fisherman Swept Out to Sea at Jalama Beach
A man fishing near the Jalama Beach area endured some scary moments when he was swept out to sea by a rogue wave Saturday morning.
Santa Barbara County Fire crews received a report of a fisherman that was washed out to sea at about 10 a.m. Park rangers were unable to locate the fisherman, and an air support unit was called to assist with the search.
The fisherman made it back to shore safely and was eventually located on the beach, uninjured.
There is a high surf advisory in effect until Sunday morning for beaches along the Central Coast. Large waves and strong rip currents will increase the risk of ocean drowning, and sweeping people off beaches.
The Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management reminds the public that if caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore until you are free of the powerful current.
