Laser Pointed At Coast Guard Boat Off Ventura County

The Coast Guard says someone on shore pointed a laser at one of its boats off Southern California.

The incident occurred Thursday night while the 45-foot motor boat was near the entrance to Channel Islands Harbor in Ventura County.

Four members of the crew were struck twice with the laser, which vanished when the boat’s blue law enforcement light was turned on.

A Coast Guard statement says a medical evaluation found that no one was injured. Laser strikes can permanently damage eyesight.

The Coast Guard notes that pointing a laser at an aircraft is a federal crime.
