Santa Maria Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect on the Run

Santa Maria police detectives arrested an armed robbery suspect that had been on the run since May 14.

36-year-old Alexander Sandoval Alfaro was arrested on Wednesday without incident, and was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail.

Alfaro, a Santa Maria resident, is accused of allegedly robbing a market at 603 S. Thornburg Street. The suspect entered the market just before 10 a.m. on May 14 wearing a mask. He then brandished a handgun and threatened a store employee before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, according to authorities.

The suspect’s identity was unknown at the time of the crime, but new information received in November allowed detectives to identify Alfaro as the robbery suspect.

Alfaro was charged with one count of robbery.
