Man Dies In Highway 46 Head-On Crash

A man is dead after a car accident in San Luis Obispo County on Thursday.

California Highway Patrol Officers said 25-year-old Ivan Maqueda Gutierrez of Fresno suffered trauma to his chest and skull after his Chevy Cobalt hit head on with another car. He died on scene.

Officials said for an unknown reason Gutierrez’s car crossed over the double yellow line and hit a Volvo Wagon going in the opposite direction. This accident happened on Highway 46 west of Highway 41 just after 7 p.m.

One witness said they say Gutierrez’s car dart out from behind a big rig in an effort to pass then hit the oncoming car.

Two people were in the Volvo that was hit. 54-year-old David Eastwood of Austin, Texas and Hannah Fury of Palo Alto, Ca sustained major injuries. One patient was transported to the hospital via helicopter and the other went via ambulance.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor in this crash. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the CHP.
