2003 Oxnard Cold Case Homicide Solved
Investigators with the Oxnard Police Department believe they have their suspect in a 2003 cold case murder.
On June 15, 2003, Oxnard police officers were called to the 4200 block of Terrace Avenue where a shooting had just taken place. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, 28-year-old Oxnard resident Brian Brown, seated in a car and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Brown was taken to the hospital in extreme critical condition but ultimately died as a result of his injuries. His murder remained unsolved for years, and in 2012 investigators re-opened the case. It wasn’t until 2015 when sufficient evidence had been developed to identify and arrest a suspect in the case.
Police arrested 40-year-old David Acosta of Oxnard and charged him for the murder. Although the motives for the killing remain unknown at this time, investigators believe Acosta pulled the trigger in the morning hours of June 15, 2003.
David Acosta, 40, of Oxnard
Acosta is currently serving a prison sentence for an unrelated conviction and will not be eligible for parole in the Brown murder case.
The investigation into the homicide continues. Investigators ask that anyone with information about this case to contact Detective Mike Young with the Oxnard Police Department at 805-385-7606, or email at mike.young@oxnardpd.org.
