Kanaloa Seafood Opens Market, Kitchen in Santa Barbara

A sustainable seafood business that opened in Santa Barbara three decades ago is coming full circle, back in town.

Kanaloa Seafood has opened a kitchen and market on the 700 block of Chapala Street, where customers will find walk-up service at lunchtime with a tasty menu of fish tacos, salmon burgers and other seafood items.

Inside at the counter, fresh fish and seafood items can be purchased for wholesale and retail, similar to Kanaloa’s longtime business concept that recently closed on Gutierrez Street.

Customers will find seating inside and outside on the patio.

Owners Randee and Don Disraeli put their ocean science backgrounds to work 32 years ago, became the first certified sustainable seafood company in the United States and is the recipient of several awards, including Small Business of the Year in 2014.

The couple also own a similar concept facility in Oxnard.

Longtime employees, including chef Nathan Simandle and retail manager Marie Evans, believe they have a winning team.

“We’re all together and we all have the same vision,” said Evans. “We’re working for good quality, it’s all sustainable, wonderful and it’s super fresh every day.”

Deliveries of fresh seafood are made twice, daily.

Market hours are from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Kanaloa will begin serving dinner Friday until 9 p.m. and in two weeks, the market will include an oyster bar featuring ceviche and pokes.

Kanaloa Seafood Market & Kitchen is closed Sundays.
