Atascadero Man Arrested For Attempted Murder of SLO Woman
An Atascadero man is behind bars accused of attempted murder of a 20-year-old San Luis Obispo woman.
Derrick Moore, 25, was arrested after authorities found him hiding in a creek behind Sierra Vista Hospital soon after the attack.
SLO Police were called out at 6:50 a.m. Friday, to investigate a woman heard screaming from an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Foothill Boulevard. When they arrived, they found a woman covered in blood inside her apartment, and the suspect walking away from the scene. 15 minutes later, police located Moore.
The unnamed victim was reportedly leaving her apartment when she was allegedly confronted by Moore, who attacked her with a stun gun. Police say that the victim fell to the ground and Moore continued the assault by punching her in the face several times.
The victim was able to take out a small knife that she had on her key chain and stab Moore’s upper-body, according to authorities. Moore then fled the scene as officers were arriving.
It appears that Moore was not known to the victim, but she told police that she had seen the suspect in the apartment complex on two other occasions in the early morning hours.
The victim suffered moderate facial injuries and lacerations to her hands as a result of the assault. She was treated and later released from the hospital. Moore sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper right side and shoulder area, none of which were life threatening. Police say that he’s in stable condition.
Moore was charged with attempted murder and remains under guarded custody at a local hospital. His bail was set at $500,000.
The case remains under investigation, and police ask anyone with information regarding this incident or the suspect to contact the San Luis Obispo Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
