Fillmore Man Sentenced to Prison for Murder of Oxnard Chiropractor
A Ventura County judge sentenced 33-year-old Daniel Nuno of Fillmore, to 50 years to life in prison. In August, a jury found Nuno guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of Ricardo Gonzalez, a chiropractor from Oxnard.
On August 9, 2012, Gonzalez was at his mother’s home when Nuno approached the residence and confronted Gonzalez who was standing in the driveway next to his elderly mother and 4-year-old son.
After a brief conversation, Nuno took out his loaded handgun, pressed it to Gonzalez’s head, and fired a single shot, killing the victim. Nuno then fled the scene and disposed of the evidence, including the handgun, which was never found.
Nuno was arrested for the murder two hours after the incident. Eyewitness accounts and DNA evidence, positively identified Nuno as the shooter.
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office says that Nuno will not be eligible for parole until he is 80 years old.
