Nwaba is a USA National Champion in Heptathlon

Finally Barbara Nwaba is on top. After being a runner-up in college and at the outdoor and indoor championships, she put it all together this past weekend to capture the national title at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Nwaba’s score of 6500 was 42 more than three-time champion Sharon Day Monroe who had won the title in each of the last two years. Adding to the rivalry is Nwaba went to UCSB while Day attended Cal Poly.

Nwaba, who is a member of the Santa Barbara Track Club, clinched a trip to the IAAF World Championships in China in late August.
