Classic Car Show Returns To Pismo Beach
PISMO BEACH, Calif. – One of the most popular annual events on the Central Coast has returned to Pismo Beach this weekend. For the 30 th straight year, The Classic at Pismo Beach Car Show will bring in hundreds of cars, as well has thousands of visitors.
“We expect anywhere from 175,000 to 200,000 people. It’s the largest spectator show in all of California,” said promoter Les Davidson.
Visitors come from all over the United States to the show that is held each year on Father’s Day weekend and essentially represents the official kickoff to the summer season in Pismo Beach.
“Just to see them all in one place it’s great, it’s like being a kid in a candy store or toy store, it’s fantastic,” said San Jose resident Marcus Espinoza.
More than a 1000 cars of every make, model, shape, color and size will be on display at the show, which concludes Sunday afternoon.
“We love people to come in with the oddities, whether it be a Studebaker, or a Chevy, or a race car, we’re open to just about anything,” said Davidson.
While many modern cars will be on display, it’s really the classics that are the star of the show.
“The cars that they maketoday, It’s not like they made back in the day, they have a lot of style, personalities and they’re just beautiful,” said Sylvia Flowers, a visitor from Lancaster who has been coming to the show for years.
One major change this year is that cars are no longer displayed in the parking lot next to the pier. Instead, the area is now full of more than 120 vendors that run the gamut.
“You can experience everything from fair food to a lot of jewelry, purses, food, any kind of food that you’d ever want,” said food vendor Michaele Dempsey.
Cars will be displayed throughout Pismo Beach on Saturday and Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A charity auction benefiting the Folds of Honor Foundation will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The always popular car cruise through the city is scheduled for Saturday starting at 6:00 p.m. On Sunday,150 awards in several categories will be announced at Noon.
The weather is forecast to be spectacular in Pismo Beach over the weekend, with sunny skies and temperatures reaching into the 70’s. Best of all for visitors, the event is free to attend!
