Cuesta College Analyst Arrested For Breaching Staff Personal Information
A Cuesta College Human Resources Analyst was arrested Wednesday night for what police say is her involvement in a breach of college personnel information.
San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies, along with investigators with the SLO County District Attorney’s Office, detained Lacey Fowler in San Miguel and took her to the Templeton Sheriff’s substation where Cuesta College police officers arrested her at about 8:45 p.m.
Fowler allegedly breached the college’s employee database, and sent personal employee information to her personal email account.
“We are extremely disappointed by the actions of our employee,” said Cuesta College Superintendent and President Dr. Gil Stork. “The college is cooperating with the investigation and because the security of our employee’s personal information is our first priority, we immediately alerted all those who could be affected via email and mail following the data breach.”
Stork sent out a letter to college employees on June 11 alerting them of the breach.
The information in question included: home addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and Social Security numbers.
Fowler was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail and charged with accessing data from a computer network without permission.
Fowler posted a set bail of $10,000 and is currently awaiting an arraignment date.
The investigation is ongoing. College employees are encouraged to contact the Cuesta College Human Resources Department at 805-546-3129 with any questions they may have.
