Pardall Tunnel Shining Light On The Year Anniversary Of Isla Vista Tragedy
May 23 marks the one year anniversary of the Isla Vista tragedy. As a tribute to the lives that were lost on that night, Pardall Tunnel is uniquely lit up
Sensors and LED bulbs in the Pardall Tunnel illuminate people as they walk or bike under the bridge. The light display pays tribute to the victims who were lost during that tragic night.
“It was important to have the light visibly demonstrate the bridge between the campus and the community,” Kim Yasuda said.
Yasuda is an art professor at UCSB. She came up with idea of illuminating Isla Vista. With the help of students, faculty, local businesses and the community, her vision became reality.
“We have six acres of park land in Isla Vista that has absolutely no lighting and there is no infrastructure for a public engagement to take place after dark,” Yasuda said.
