A Carpinteria Bank is Robbed, Suspects Arrested

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two Los Angeles residents in connection with a bank robbery in Carpinteria Tuesday morning.

Deputies said Terry Ray Hornbeck, 53, and Mary Lee Johnson, 49, entered the Chase Bank at 5400 Carpinteria Avenue shortly before 9 a.m. They fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

A few minutes later, a Patrol Deputy spotted a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle traveling on U.S. 101 southbound. This deputy, along with law enforcement personnel from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol, initiated a “high risk” stop of that vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Office said evidence of the bank robbery were found inside the vehicle, but no further details were provided.

Hornbeck and Johnson were arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County jail with bail set to $100,000.
