Tate & UCSB Fall to Oregon

UCSB ace Dillon Tate lost his no-hitter and his 1-0 lead in the sixth inning. Oregon would break up the 1-1 tie with two more runs in the eighth and two more in the 9th as they beat the Gauchos 5-1 in the opener of a three-game series between two top 25 teams.

Tate was perfect through four innings and did not allow a hit for the first five innings.

He gave up a leadoff single in the sixth inning to J.B. Bryant and he scored on a safety squeeze by Austin Grebeck to tie the game at 1.

Brandon Cuddy’s two-run single in the eighth gave the Ducks a 3-1 lead.

Tate worked 7 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on 3 hits and he struck out 8. He did walk four as he dropped to 2-1.

The Gauchos Andrew Calica knocked in UCSB’s lone run of the day with a third inning single.

UCSB is 7-2 and host Oregon on Saturday at 2 p.m.
