Faria Beach Killer Sentenced in Ventura Courtroom
The stabbing deaths of a Faria Beach couple and their unborn son came to a close Friday when Joshua Packer was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Packer, 25, of Ventura, sat quietly as Superior Court Judge Patricia Murphy called him “the worst of the worst,” and handed down consecutive life sentences for the deaths of Brock Husted and his pregnant wife, Davina Husted.
Prosecutors agreed to drop a possible death penalty after Packer pleaded guilty in December to all the charges against him.
Brock and Davina Husted were stabbed to death in their Faria Beach home in 2009. She was a former Miss Oxnard, He designed wrought iron gates for Oprah and other stars. They were both 42 years old and expecting their third child already named Grant when an intruder wearing a motorcycle helmet entered their beach front home through an open window and killed them.
Almost a year went by before blood evidence linked the stabbings to Joshua Packer, a former Ventura High School football player and ex-security guard.
Five family members of the victims made personal statements Friday. The 16-year-old daughter of Brock and Davina Husted spoke about how her parents were taken away from her including her unborn brother. She was 11 years old at the time of the murder.
