Central California Quake

A light earthquake has shaken a Central California region southeast of Monterey Bay.

Some 700 people reported feeling the magnitude-4.4 tremor, which struck at 5:21 a.m. Tuesday.

Nearby police agencies had no reports of damage or injuries.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the epicenter was 17 miles northeast of King City.

The USGS says the quake occurred at a depth of 6 miles. The immediate area is largely rural and lightly populated.

The USGS public reporting pages show it was felt lightly or weakly around Monterey Bay and to the east in some San Joaquin Valley cities.
