Oxnard Residents Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The 29th annual Doctor King, Jr., birthday celebration happened Monday in Oxnard.

The theme for this year’s event is “Celebrating Voting and Civil Rights TODAY!” at Oxnard’s Performing Arts Center.

This theme is significant this year because 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.

The day started with a freedom march from Plaza Park at Fifth and “C” Streets.

The program featured youth speakers, scripture readings and gospel music by the Martin Luther King Youth Choir.
