Cal Poly Edged at Long Beach State

Mike Caffey scored 14 points, including the game-winning bucket just ahead of the buzzer, to lift Long Beach State to a 50-48 win over Cal Poly on Thursday night.

Caffey also hauled in seven rebounds and had four assists, while Tyler Lamb added nine points and David Samuels grabbed nine rebounds for Long Beach State (8-11, 2-1 Big West).

Trailing by two at the break, the 49ers scored 10 unanswered points late in the second half to overtake Cal Poly (8-7, 1-2) with a bucket from Caffey that made it 42-41 with 4:46 left. The Mustangs tied it at 48 with a jumper from David Nwaba with 29 seconds to go but Caffey hit the game winner at the other end with 2 seconds left.

Michael Bolden led Cal Poly with 14 points, Nwaba finished with 12 points and Joel Awich had 10.

The Mustangs are at CSUN on Saturday.
