Astronauts Forced to Evacuate in Space

NASA officials said that an ammonia leak forced three astronauts to evacuate the American section of the International Space Station Wednesday morning.

The U.S. crew of two Americans, and one Italian, abandoned their section after noticing a leak coming out of the station’s cooling system located in their area.

The displaced crew took shelter on the opposite side of the station, which housed three Russian cosmonauts.

Moscow space officials say that the crews are safe and that a spacewalk may be needed to fix the leak.

A spokeswoman for the NASA office in Moscow had no immediate comment.
