Santa Barbara County Supervisors Select New Fire Chief

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department has a new chief. Members of the board of supervisors unanimously selected Deputy Chief Eric Peterson.

Peterson has worked for the Santa Barbara County Fire department for 28 years.

He replaces outgoing Chief Michael Dyer, who is retiring. Peterson is the son of former fire Chief Richard Peterson, who was at the helm during the 1990 painted cave fire.

He starts his new role as chief on February 2nd.
