Man Who Claimed Self-Defense Guilty of Murder

A San Luis Obispo jury found Philip Hanes guilty of second degree murder on Friday in the stabbing death of his girlfriend Tina Beddow.

The attack happened in June of last year in Templeton. Hanes claimed he stabbed Beddow in self-defense but the jury didn’t believe his side of the story.

Hanes could be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for second degree murder. The use of a deadly weapon adds another year when he’s sentenced on February 9 in Judge Jacquelyn Duffy’s court.
