“Trails & Rails” Looking For Volunteer Guides

West Coast Rails is looking for local volunteer tour guides for their “Trails & Rails” program.

The National Park Service, South Coast Railroad Museum and Amtrak are working together to find Santa Barbara and Ventura county residents to be educational guides.

Trails & Rails guides will give informative talks on the natural, cultural and historical significances of the route.

Starting April and lasting through August, the guides will ride along the Starlight and Pacific Surfliner trains.

The guides do not need to be historians or naturalists, but just enthusiastic about the California coast.

South Coast Railroad Museum director Gary Coombs said, “We are looking for people who are interested in sharing this very special area with people from all over the United States and all over the world .”

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, in good health, and available to make an average of at least two one-day trips per month during the five-month period that the program is offered.

Uniforms, program materials, travel, meals, and overnight lodging are all provided.

For those interested in becoming a guide there will be meeting at Monday Jan. 12 from 7 -8:30pm at the South Coast Railroad Museum in Goleta.
