Prop 47 Effects Felt in Santa Maria

It’s been a little over a month since the implementation of Proposition 47 and the Santa Maria Police Department have felt the effects.

One of the main goals of Prop 47 is to keep California prisons from overcrowding, which is predicted to save the state millions of dollars.

With Prop 47, several crimes such as theft, drug use and nonviolent offenses are reduced from felonies to misdemeanors.

On the local level, Santa Maria Police Department say Prop 47 has saved officers time while on duty.
