Community Remembers Santa Maria Woman Killed in Fiery Car Crash on Highway 101

On Sunday, over 100 people gathered at Waller Park to mourn and remember 25 year-old Ashley Kerr who passed away in a car wreck on December 28, 2014.

Kerr was a Costco pharmacy technician in Goleta and a freelance model.

She was killed when the Chevy Blazer she was riding in swerved off Highway 101, crashed and caught on fire.

Kurt Hixenbaugh was also riding in the Chevy Blazer but managed to escaped.

Hixenbaugh had been hospitalized for a fractured vertebrae but has since been released, and made an appearance at Kerr’s Celebration of Life.

Travis Dashek was behind the wheel of the vehicle when it crashed and has been in the hospital for a lacerated spleen.

California Highway Patrol says drugs and alcohol are suspected and Dashek will face at least one count of felony DUI, among other charges once he’s released from the hospital.
