Direct Relief Sending Ebola Relief Shipment For Liberia

Direct Relief, a medical supply non-profit in Santa Barbara, will send off an Ebola relief shipment Wednesday afternoon to Liberia.

This is the 30th relief delivery since response began earlier this year.

DR staffers value this latest shipment of supplies at $75,000 (wholesale), roughly the same amount raised by people in Santa Barbara for this response.

The seven pallet shipment contains protective equipment for health workers, IV fluid, antibiotics, hygiene items, vitamins and more. Another 27 pallets will soon be shipped to Sierra Leone.

Experts say they’ve seen progress in some areas of West Africa over the past year when the virus was first found in Guinea, however, the epidemic continues to pop up, especially in rural areas.

DR officials say Ebola is the type of epidemic where you have to get to zero cases in order for it to not be a threat to anyone, anywhere (even here in the U.S.) and will continue to respond to this epidemic in 2015 and are honored to have so much support from Santa Barbara residents.

As of just before Christmas, DR counted 181 donors in Santa Barbara County who’ve donated $68,246.40 specifically for Ebola. An additional $3,081.66 was raised by local Youth 4 Direct Relief student groups.
