Pearl Chase Society Helps to Save Rare Italian Stone Pines

A donation of over $14,000 from the Pearl Chase Society will help efforts to save rare Italian Stone Pines in Santa Barbara. They are on Anapamu St. near Santa Barbara High School.

Recently they have shown serious impacts from the drought. Four died, and were cut down. Some of the others look sick. There’s also a bark beetle infestation in some of the trees.

The Pearl Chase Society is a preservation group and wanted to help efforts to care for the trees, dating back to 1908.

The donation will pay for “irricades.” They look like barricades but are full of water with a drip line to the tree roots. 25 have been installed. 31 are expected to arrive soon.

The city is optimistic the additional water is expected to revive the trees.
