Ventura Comes Up Short in Title Game

Ventura looked poised to win its first CIF title since 2000.

Touchdowns by Josh Januska, Tyler Peralta and Tommy Grossman had the Cougars up 24-11 at halftime against Palos Verdes in the CIF Western Division final.

But the Cougars could not close it out as the Sea Kings outscored Ventura 21-0 after halftime and won the championship 32-24.

Januska raced 100 yards on a kickoff to give Ventura an early 7-3 lead.

Tyler Peralta scored from 1-yard out to make it 17-11 Cougars in the second quarter.

Following a Keenan Moran interception, Tyler Smith found Tommy Grossman for a touchdown just before half to give Ventura a 24-11 lead.

But the Sea Kings scored back to back touchdowns in the third quarter to take s 25-24 lead and quarterback Steve Delcarson added a fourth quarter touchdown for the final margin of victory.

Ventura ends the year 12-2.
