Portable Showers Ready To Help Homeless

Rev. Ronald Cox said a portable shower offering homeless men and women a a place to wash at a church in the San Fernando Valley inspired him to start a collection.

The Christ Lutheran Church and teamed up with HEAL (Health Empowerment and Love) and other churches to make the portable shower a reality.

About two weeks ago the church unveiled a mobile shower that is being pulled by a Ram 1500 pickup truck donated by Jeremy Goodwin.

The $22,000 trailer contains two toilets and two showers and a water heater. Donors names are also posted on the back. More money is needed to cover the annual upkeep and insurance.

Co-coordinator Sandie Miller said they named the trailer, “Showers of Blessings” after a song she learned church.

The showers will get more use on Monday when they take the trailer to St. Michaels Church in Isla Vista where meals are also served.

Volunteers have also donated clothing and so people can leave with a new set of clothes.
