Law Enforcement Ride-Along On Wet Santa Maria Streets
Santa Maria Police officer John Veres, after six months on the job, got his first taste at what’s it is like to patrol the streets during Tuesday’s wet weather.
Veres said on a day like today with light and heavy showers “going too fast and not giving yourself enough room” is the biggest mistake drivers make during inclement weather.
The Santa Maria Police department said since 7 a.m. there have been 9 non-injury related traffic collisions.
Craig carrier with California Highway Patrol said this morning were about 5 or 6 accidents on the freeway.
Carrier said speeding and distracted driving are usually the cause for most rain related collisions. He told KEYT/KCOY’S Cory James the best thing drivers can do is “slow down, increase your following distances and just watch for break lights going ahead.”
