Three Arrests Made in Connection With Righetti High School Brawls

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s office said that as of Thursday morning, two more Righetti High School students, a boy and girl, have been arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall. A third female student was arrested before school was let out.

The first female student was charged with battery on a peace officer, and obstructing a peace officer by means of force. The male student was charged with assault on a peace officer. And the third student was charged with battery on a peace officer.

All three have been booked into the Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall.

There are nine students now that have been arrested in connection with Wednesday morning’s brawls at at Righetti High School.

Earlier today, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a large student gathering in the quad area of Righetti High School shortly after 12:45 p.m. Deputies on scene called for backup and it was reported that neighboring Saint Joseph High School went on a brief lockdown.

The lockdown at St. Joseph was promptly lifted.

Authorities said there is no incident as of yet but continue to remain vigilant.

“We are not going to tolerate this kind of behavior on campus,” Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Richardson said. “Students who participate in this type of behavior will be disciplined up to and including expulsion from campus.”

The Sheriff’s department said there were minor injuries in Wednesday’s fights but that no one was treated for them.
