Santa Maria Man Tries To Steal Truck; Workers Stop Him

A recent convict is back behind bars after police say he tried to steal a truck in Santa Maria.

Antonio Alexis Hernandez is on parole and had just been released from state prison, but yesterday in the area of Betteravia and A Street, officers got a call about a family disturbance.

Contractors were working in the area when Hernandez tried to take off in one of their trucks. One of the workers tried to prevent the man from driving away by putting the truck in park but Hernandez ended up hitting him and then chasing him.

The other contractors were able to detain him until police arrived.

Hernandez was arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County jail for carjacking.
