Turkey Donations a Holiday Treat for Struggling Families

A tradition that’s been going on for more than a decade, KCOY’s turkey drive is happening Thursday.

Partners in the drive include the San Luis Obispo Food Bank and Santa Maria’s Good Samaritan Services.

One former recipient, Jasmine Gaiten who stays at Good Samaritan’s Casa de Familia, said she looks forward to he holiday each year.

The mother of two said, “The holidays are when we get together with our kids, that’s when we see them the happiest.”

Gaiten said, “I’m considered a low income family so it helps financially. I was able to do thanksgiving dinner for my daughter and the kids that were here.”

The turkey drive is on November 20 th from 6 a.m to 7 p.m.

Locations for turkey drop off are:

– KCOY Santa Maria Newsroom

– Lompoc City Hall

– Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo

– Albertsons in Paso Robles

– California Fresh Market in Pismo Beach

Watch live turkey drive coverage on KCOY Channel 12 starting at 5 a.m. Thursday.

Volunteers will accept donations starting at 6 a.m. and continue the live broadcast.
