Veterans Honored at Santa Barbara Presidio Ceremony

The Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation hosted a Veterans Day Ceremony Tuesday.

The free event was held at 11:00 a.m. at El Presidio de Santa Brbara State Historic Park and featured a ceremony conducted by members of Los Soldados del Real de Santa Brbara to honor armed service veterans, their families, and currently serving military members.

All branches of the military were represented with a special color guard procession.

The outside event drew passersby as well.

A UC Santa Barbara Professor and historian, Dr. Rose Hayden Smith was the keynote speaker. Her studies of World War One showed how it created nations and also destroyed nations. It also brought a post war era with massive challenges and global changes.

She said this special day is a time to honor our veterans and their commitments.
