Organic Soup Kitchen Serves Up Free Meals to Veterans

The Organic Soup Kitchen served up its annual free feast on Veterans Day.

The organization just got a five-year lease to operate out of the Veterans Memorial Building on Cabrillo Boulevard in Santa Barbara.

Volunteers helped prepare and serve the nutritious meal to about 200 people.

Veterans, family and friends enjoyed lasagna, lamb, soup, salad and bread.

Anthony Carroccio is the Executive Director of the Organic Soup Kitchen.

Carroccio says the ingredients in the food he serves are 80 percent organic and he wants to get that percentage higher.

The Organic Soup Kitchen feeds about 30,000 meals to the community year-round.

Carroccio and his team of volunteers are gearing up for the holiday season.

The Organic Soup Kitchen will open its doors on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The organization is also starting a breakfast club on Wednesdays and is offering a free PTSD Yoga class.
