San Luis Obispo’s 24th Adult Drug Court Graduation

On Wednesday, six people graduated the adult drug court program in San Luis Obispo.

Gary Gibson, drug and alcohol specialist at the adult drug court, said, There are over ,2800 adult drug court programs in the US and in other countries, 142,000 clients world wide at any given time. In the US, 75% of graduates remain arrest free in the first 2 years. Also, the ADC program in the US saves $27.00 for every $1.00 invested.

The program is at least 18 months.

One of the graduates, Kenneth Lumbattis, shared his story. Lumbattis said was in a dark place but the drug court program helped him change his life.

“I had an alcoholic father, me my mother my sister were abused,” he said he was also incarcerated several times for drug possession and being under the influence.

That’s not the person he is today.

“I was thinking I’d play that game, but I manipulated myself to a better way of living.”

He went from being homeless and addicted to drugs to serving as an assistant manager at a sober living house for men.

Lumbattis now helps others combat addiction, regardless of how traumatic of a life they might have had. Today he says he wants to give others hope.

Since 2011 adult drug court in San Luis Obispo has helped around 40 graduates complete the program and move on to living better lives.
