Measure P Supporters React to Election Defeat

Proponents of Measure P gathered at the Piano Lounge in Santa Barbara as they found out the measure had been defeated in the polls.

If it passed, the measure would have banned fracking in Santa Barbara County. The controversial technique is used to break up rock and extract oil and gas underground.

The No on P campaign outspent the grassroots campaign. Proponents of P said they spend around $300,000 while opponents including oil companies put in $7 million.

With 94 percent of precincts reporting, 62.05 percent of residents voted no, while only 37.95 voted yes.
