Late Night Santa Maria Crashes Unrelated, Police Say

Two late evening car crashes in Santa Maria kept emergency responders busy Monday night. The accidents happened just before 11:00 p.m.

The first crash was at the corner of Enos Drive and South Miller Street. In that accident, a driver was trapped in the vehicle and suffered major injuries. A passenger in the other vehicle had minor injuries.

The second crash happened soon afterward at the corner of South College Drive and Stowell Road. In that accident, one person was ejected, according to police. That person was listed in critical condition and airlifted to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. A second person had to be extricated after becoming trapped under the wreckage.

Even though the accidents were near each other and happened only a short time apart, they were determined not to be related.
