Iconic Foster’s Freeze in San Luis Obispo is Closed
An iconic fast foodplace, Foster’s Freeze in downtown San Luis Obispo served its last “twister” ice cream cup on Wednesday Night.
Many showed up to buy their last burger or soft serve ice cream and thank the owners.
It was a bittersweet day for Lorraine Phillips. Her family has owned the fast food joint since 1982. Before them the Watts family owned the restaurant.
It’s possible someone else may open franchise, but as far as the iconic places goes, it’s over.
Phillips said, “We see people every day, they come in and they’re our friends and now we won’t see them quite as often.
The crowd during lunch hour wrapped all around the building and it didn’t slow down all day. The restaurant ran out of burgers, then the ice cream was gone and then the hotdogs.
Phillips said she was overwhelmed and surprised at the support they received on its last day.
Many said they would miss this iconic fast food joint.
Marci Dominguez, a customer, said “I’m very sad it’s closing. I used to come here with my great grandmother. She used to bring me here ever since I was 4 or 5 years old. I had to come celebrate her memory and get my last cheeseburger.”
“It’s been an amazing run but it’s time,” Phillips said.
