Funk Zone Water Main Break Floods Santa Barbara Streets in Waterfront Zone

It was a gusher. A water main break at 4 a.m. Tuesday flooded several streets in the Funk Zone in the Santa Barbara waterfront. The problem was on Yanonali St. near Anacapa. Crews are still on scene today.

The problem erupted under the street, and when a city emergency crew got to the scene, water had already gone in all directions sending layers of silt and mud into gutters, over curbs and on to private property.

The broken main was fixed by the city Tuesday.

Road blocks are in place while Lash Construction completes a repaving project above the repaired line today.

Businesses in the very popular area of Santa Barbara remain open, including restaurants, wineries, breweries and art galleries.

It’s unknown why the water main broke. One on site construction worker said, “old age.”
