Comedian Using Jokes in Fundraising Effort after Tenants Split Without Paying

It was not a joking matter for comedian Andrey Belikov who found his rental home trashed, soaked with water and a mess recently. His tenants left owing him thousands of dollars from three months of unpaid rent.

Finding the repairs costs were beyond his finances, he turned to the on line fundraising site “Go Fund Me” to get some help from friends and even people he didn’t know.

Belikov has been using a trade plan – mainly for jokes, to get donations.

For $10.00 he says you will get a cup of coffee, but it gets better. For $20.00 you get two tickets to his Comedy Hideaway show. $50.00 gets you six tickets, $200. gets you a lifetime comedy pass at his shows, and $1200. gets you a full blown show with a headliner and team of comics.

He was shooting for $6000. in help. Right now about 60 donors have clicked on the site and made donations, amounting to about $4000.

“I am Ukrainian, so for us, even with a flood I feel I am the most lucky Ukranian. OK the the house is destroyed but it is not bombed out. There’s no Russian tanks outside. I’m still up. I think,” said Belikov.

These days, there is a big improvement from what he saw two months ago when the house was a wreck with water damage and other impacts from the troublesome tenants.

“We had a gardener come to clean up the yard and I am pretty sure he thought we had a meth lab in here,” said Belikov.

New flooring has gone in, paint has hit the walls, new tubs, sinks, toilets, and more are installed but the bills still need to be paid.

Belikov hopes humor will help him get through this mess, and raise some funds.
