Woman Calls for Help After Finding Dog Left in Car At Harbor

A concerned citizen called police after she says a man left his dog in a car with the windows rolled up while he ate lunch.

The woman lives on a boat in Santa Barbara’s harbor.

She was walking by and heard a dog barking. After peering inside, she called police.

The woman said she waited for more than an hour for the owner to show up.

The dog owner said he had a window cracked, and there was water in the kennel.

He acknowledged he went to lunch and left the dog in the car for an hour.

Animal Control showed up and checked the dog out. The dog was OK.

The officer gave the man a warning, but said he will be ticketed if it happens again.

The temperature in downtown Santa Barbara was near 80 degrees on Sunday.

Animal Control says even though it’s October, temperatures inside a car can rise in less than 10 minutes.
