Local Journalist Remembers Ben Bradlee

Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee has died.

Bradlee was at the helm of the Washington Post during the paper’s coverage of the Pentagon Papers and Watergate. The Post won 19 Pulitzers during his 25-year tenure.

Jason Robards played Bradlee in the film, ‘All The President’s Men.”

But former Sr. White House Correspondent Lou Cannon said there was more too Bradlee than the movie could portray.

Cannon remembers him as the kind of boss who would roll up his sleeves during crunch time. Cannon said you knew he had your back when coverage stirred up controversy.

He said the world of journalism is indebted to Bradlee.

Bradlee was a World War II Navy Veteran, a Harvard Graduate and a Medal of Freedom recipient.

Cannon said Bradlee suffered from Alzheimer’s in his later years.

He died at his Washington home at the age of 93.
